ADR TRAINING - Dangerous Goods Training

The Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road Regulations came into force on 1st January 1996 and requires all drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous substances in tanks or packages to complete a training course and pass a number of Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) exams to obtain a vocational Training Certificate.

The qualification lasts for 5 years and must be renewed 6 weeks before the expiry date.

We provide training courses covering the following classes which satisfy the above regulations:

• Class 2 – Flammable Gases
• Class 3 – Flammable Liquids
• Class 4 – Flammable Solids
• Class 5 – Oxidising agents and Organic Peroxides
• Class 6 – Toxics
• Class 8 – Corrosives
• Class 9 – Miscellaneous

Available course programs:


5 Day Full Initial ADR

Core, Tanks, Packages, Classes 2,3,4,5,6,8 & 9. (tankers and lift tanks)

This course can gain drivers upto 28 hours towards their Driver CPC.


4 Day Initial ADR


Core, Tanks, Packages, Classes 2,3,4,5,6,8 & 9.


This course can gain drivers 21 hours towards their Driver CPC.


We can also deliver stand alone courses to your requirements if needed.


All exams are held online. Candidates will know their results on completion of exams. Anticipating a speedy deliverance of the ADR card for all successful candidates.

Some typical examples of driver training examination requirements :-

1. A driver distributing LPG cylinders would need to attend the course and pass the examinations for Core, Packages and Class 2.

2. A tanker driver conveying petroleum spirit would need to attend the course and pass the examinations for Core, Tanks and Class 3.

3. A driver who conveys compressed gases in both tankers and packages would need to attend the course and pass the examinations for Core, Packages, Tanks and Class 2.

4. A driver conveying explosives would need to attend the course and pass the examinations for Core, Packages and Class 1.

5. A driver conveying radioactives would need to attend the course and pass the examinations for Core, Packages and Class 7.

6. A tanker driver in general haulage would need to attend the course and pass the examinations for Core, Tanks, Classes 3,4,5,6,8 & 9.

7. A driver in general haulage carrying packaged goods would need to attend the course and pass the examinations for Core, Packages, Classes 2,3,4,5,6,8 & 9.


It is extremely important to ensure that drivers are entered for the correct number of examinations as they will be restricted to conveying only those classes of dangerous goods shown on their vocational certificate.
